19/03/2024. A tentative return to Cycling and Walking, after a lay-off of several months, due to an Achilles Tendon problem. Diagnosed as "thickening of Achilles Tendon", and told, "this is an over use injury, rest and recuperation is the solution".

No video, because, this was supposed to be a 4 mile ride, but, one of the vintage 1947 Pensioners decided we venture along road we have never used before, no maps with us, hence, just over 9 miles, not 4 miles!
10/09/2023. 2.11 miles. Twice. An easy day today, to the village community run shop, for mile and ice cream, and, then, to the village community pub (The White Hart) and back.
It is so hot, they have cancelled the usually Sunday Carvery, and, have a BBQ, plus Pizzas available.
So, two vintage 1947 Pensioners cycle there, consume their pizza, and drink a pint or two, then, return back to the van.

Disappointed that for St Roberts, I could only find a School, it qualifies, but, so far, I have managed all churches. St Simons was a trawl back through time, haven't been there since I was 11!

Taking in sections of NCN21, NCN12, parts of Peterborough Green Wheel. We meet a really elderly gentleman (looked much older than us,85-90 was our guess) just outside of Peakirk, still peddling his Specialised Hybrid. He advised us against taking the section of NCN12 to Crowland. I should have listened. Kathleen refused to. continue it was so wet and rough, taking us on. a much longer route via B1443, and then, even more of a diversion to avoid the very busy A16.

We did a slight variation on our normal route, since, rumour has it that parts of Bowes Railway path flooded and/or damaged by rain, so, we avoided that section. Two vintage 1947 Pensioners. 02/09/2022. 14.40 Miles. Haydon Bridge - Bardon Mill - Henshaw. Two vintage 1947 Pensioners. AKASO EK7000 Camera. Sunny and warm, 20c, a breeze from the East. We first follow a signed trail, but, that becomes an unrideable. So, plan B, follow the 'old road' through Haydon Bridge, inevitably we come to the A69. We take a chance to ride the four miles to Bardon Mill, along the A69. Not really enjoyable, too noisy, and, or course, the constant thought 'is some clown playing with their phone, instead of watching where they are going!". A stop for coffee and cake at Bardon Mill, then, a little further on NCN72. We could have returned via the NCN72, but, it was decided that risking the A69 again was better than the prospect of big hills! The view from the rear, for good measure!

This was undulating with a capital "U"! Lots of fun downhill stretches, but, for every downhill stretch, there is an UP! Included a short section of NCN72 (on quiet road).

My monthly target of 150 miles/month is looking doubtful, only 122.9miles done, leaving 27.1 to do, only 3 days to do it in.

This is the other side of the River Trent to East Stockwith, where we cycled to on Tuesday. Although the village sign clearly shows a bridge and a ferry, neither exist!
09/08/2022. 22.06 miles. Misterton - Gainsborough - East Stockwith and return. Two vintage 1947 Pensioners. A sunny and hot day, 19C starting out, 25C on the return. This was meant to be a nice circular route, of about 15 miles, but, when we reached East Stockwith, there is no bridge, and, no ferry, to cross the River Trent. A passing cyclist told us, with some glee in his voice, that the next bridge was approximately 14 miles North, so, we retraced our route, via Gainsborough, fora 22 mile ride. Front Camera mount broke, so, video is a mixture of front camera and rear camera.

04/07/2022. 25.64 Miles. Byermoor - Tanfield - Quaking Houses - Chester-le-Street - Washington - Boldon Colliery. One vintage 1947 Pensioner today. AKASO EK7000 Camera. Quite cool start, with a stiff breeze, which, thankfully, was mostly a tail wind. Some periods of sunshine, and, some cloudy periods.
Not my usual cycle ride this. After booking Motorhome in at Tyne Valley Motorhomes, cycled to Quaking Houses, via Tanfield. All part of collecting the ABC of Town and Village Names, in Cyclechat.
Used Cycle.Travel website for the route, which, was as usual very good, but, my Garmin went a bit "haywire", shortly after Quaking Houses, giving an poor message. From that point, my Navigation went a bit haywire.
I did have the route split into two parts (ie Byermoor - Quaking Houses, then, Quaking Houses to Boldon Colliery. But, the Door message resulted in four subdivisions.
After Quaking Houses, on to Chester-le-Street, Washington and Boldon Colliery.
Stopped to change batteries in cameras at Pelton Fell, for some reason, Front camera stopped recording, at that point (user error, no doubt), so, first 6 videos are the front view, and, final four (as far as Washington) are the view from my rear camera. The route took in some of Systrans NCN 7 (C2C), although I failed to rejoin in after Quaking Houses, due to my Navigation malfunction.

08/06/2022. 10.62 Miles. Boldon Colliery - Heworth - Boldon Colliery. Only one vintage 1947 Pensioner, again, today. The other one is still laid up with back pain. A rather disappointing outing. I set off with the intention of riding to Penshaw, to nab the letter "P for the Cyclechat Challenge. But, I decided, en-route, to head for Pelaw, instead. Disappointment. I knew Pelaw did not have much going for it, but, it does not even have a name board. One small win, it poured with rain, and, there was a handy bus-shelter to stay dry in, I doubt I would have been as fortunate en-route to Penshaw.

23/05/2022. 16.16 miles. Boldon Colliery - Jarrow - Washington Village - Boldon Colliery. Cloudy but warm and calm. Our first outing on our new Specialized Vado 4.0 SL eBikes. Sytarnge although it may seem, we did not use the battery assistance, just rode the route to get used to the actual bicycles. We need seat height tweaking (higher), plus a couple of other little adjustments to suit us, but, overall, very pleased with them. No video, because I don't have camera mounts on new bike, yet.

Our target was to ride to Ixworth, but, the nicely signposted, and reasonable quality, cycle route petered out just short of Wattisfield, and, joined the busy A143. Since we don't have a death wish, we cut it short at Wattisfield and returned via Walsham-le-Willows. Video incomplete, I forgot to charge camera battery!
30/04/2022. 7.26 Miles. Barn Owl Meadow Cl - Rickingham COOP. Sunny and mild 14C. Only one vintage 1947 pensioner today, an act of mercy to buy Paracetamol for Kathleen's bad back. Taking the scenic route, which I think is actually slightly shorter, but, the junction with the A143 is a little more difficult to negotiate.
3.39 miles. A quick spin, around the block, make up my 150 miles for the month.

Poorly signposted, so, we ended up in next village (Botesdale), but, found the COOP eventually, although, it was so well tucked away, we did have to ask directions!

Cobbled together a ride, taking in St Benedicts Church, and a shopping trip to. Ludham Village.

Securring problem with Garmin (user error?), it does not appear to be possibly to use the ride timer, and, GPS Sat-Nav function, at same time. The time simply does not record the activity. Fortunately, Kathleen recording via Runkeeper, hence, the different map.

28/05/2021. 13.02 miles. Wyatts Covert CAMC Site - Iver Village. Warm and dry, sunshine and cloud, 19C. Another of my outing for Cyclechat Challenges, ABC of Town and Village names. Today, I bag "I" for Iver Village. We go via an on road route, courtesy of Cycle Routes App, and, returned via the Towpath of the Grand Union Canal, with a lunch stop for drinks and snacks.
26/05/2021. 9.54 Miles. From Wyatts Covert CAMC Site, along Grand Union Canal. A dry day, 16C, even a little sun, but, the previous ten days of almost solid rain had left some of the towpath rather muddy, and, some big puddles, not to Kathleen's liking ;)
Collected some photographs for Cyclechat, mostly bridges.
A quick coffee and cake stop by the canal.
Followed by miles 1.08 miles more, to collect "bike infront of gate" photographs for Cyclechat. Tilehouse Lane is a gold mine of fancy gates.
